Mack Sennett

Mack Sennett (born Michael Sinnott; January 17, 1880 – November 5, 1960) was a Canadian-born American director and actor and was known as an innovator of slapstick comedy in film. During his lifetime he was known at times as the "King of Comedy".

This is the website for a surname study registered with the Guild of One Name Studies.

The surnames of interest are a collection of variants generally in the form S-NN-T, and include SINNOTT, SENNETT, SYNNOTT, SINNETT, SENNITT.

This one name study started, like many others, with my own personal research into my maternal grandmother's ancestry. She was a SENNETT, born in Normanton, West Yorkshire. My mother remembered visiting her relatives in Normanton as a child, and being aware of the large numbers of relatives in and around Normanton. I quickly realised that most of the SENNETTs in Yorkshire appeared to be related so I started collecting all references to the surname there. As well as the Yorkshire SENNETTs, I observed that several other areas of England also had significant numbers of people with the same surname, and I wondered if they would be able to be linked at some point.

In 2011 I registered the SENNETT one name study with the Guild of One Name Studies and began to more formally collect up further references and reconstruct families.

Having made good progress on my original aim of identifying SENNETT and SENNITT families, and having realised that the origins of my own SENNETTs were SINNOTT in Ireland, I expanded the study to include SINNOTT, SINNETT, and SYNNOTT and other variant spellings in the form S-NN-T. SINNOTT is the most dominant form of the name worldwide.
